About Birthing Babies

What if there was a way to give birth in a place where you felt most comfortable?

What if there was a way to significantly reduce the chances of needing to have forceps used during the birth of your baby, or a caeserean section?

What if you could have your family - partner, children, or other close loved ones - present at the birth of your baby?

There is. It’s called “homebirth“.

Did you know that in 2000, American researchers studied over 5000 women who had planned to have home births in North America? They compared them to women from a similar background who had planned to have a hospital birth. They found - overwhelmingly - that women who planned to have a home birth had better outcomes. They had far less intervention - that means less drugs, less use of forceps, and a lesser chance of having a caeserean section. And their babies were just as healthy and happy as those babies that were born in hospital.

This latest research from America confirms similar findings from countries all around the world, including Australia.

Home birth isn’t a choice for “hippies”. It isn’t dangerous. It is a valid choice that is available to women in Australia who want to have their babies in a place where they feel safe, and comfortable, and who want to be attended to during their pregnancy, labour, and birth, by a midwife whom they have chosen, and whom they have come to know and trust.

Birthing Babies is an independent midwifery practice based in Port Macquarie, in the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. It is our goal to offer the choice of a home birth with an independent midwife to women in this region.
